Lamplugh and District Heritage Society
LDHS started out as an informal group set up Lamplugh Parish Council to prepare a Parish Gazetteer. This eventually appeared as “The Parish of Lamplugh”.
LDHS subsequently became an independent society with the aim of supporting and fostering all aspects of heritage or historical research in Lamplugh and nearby. Melvyn Bragg, with his strong Lamplugh connections, agreed to be the society’s Patron
The society now holds regular monthly meetings, and have organised workshops for family and house history researchers. “Lamplugh Church – Heritage and Traditions of a Cumbrian Parish” by Betty Marshall, was published in 2004, and we also have a range of postcards of the parish.
We have exhibited at Ennerdale and Gosforth Shows and at the Beacon’s History Fair. In 2007 we prepared a substantial exhibition of Ennerdale Show’s history to mark their centenary show, which led in turn to a DVD of the show and its history

The Committee has just received confirmation of a £2000 Grant towards the purchase of a complete set of new tables, the balance of £600 + coming from Hall funds. These monies have been approved from the Cumbria County Council's Local Capital Scheme and we are extremely grateful to our local CCC representive, Cllr N Clarkson for his support and involvement. In addition, the Committee are preparing an application to seek funds to provide underfloor insulation, internal roof insulation and to install a new and modern heating/ventilation system. If successful, it is hoped these improvements could be made in the spring of next year.
Please note, you can keep right up to date with our calendar if you are considering the hire of our Hall facility, or just to keep current with the events, at www.lamplughvillagehall.org.uk
